Planetary Gearboxes create a substantial amount of torque for their size, have high torsional stiffness, and low backlash, this is what makes them suited for a wide-range of applications.
If gearmotor cost, gear noise, and overall gearmotor length are critical factors, we find that design engineers often drop the requirement for a right-angle or inline (helical) gearmotor solution and instead select a more compact planetary gearmotors.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF PLANETARY GEAR UNIT COMPARED TO STANDARD GEAR UNITS?
1.DIMENSIONS
The planetary gearbox is significantly more compact than standard helical or worm gearbox, and therefore easier to install.
2. WEIGHT
A planetary gearbox weights aprox ½ less than correspondigly rated traditional gear unit (worm, parallel or right angle shaft) and transmiting higher maximum torque.
3.COST
Thanks to high volume production and new technology for manufacturing planetary carrier rings, the result is that prices are much more competitive than correspondigly rated traditional gear units.
4.HIGH TORQUE AND GEAR RATIO
With the load spreaded across 3 planet gears , high torques can be transmited even with relative compact dimensions.
